Tsunami Tales

Since 2004, we pass the third anniversary of tsunami disaster in December of South East Asia, 26, seems a good time to look back and tell a few personal experiences of people in Phuket, Thailand. This is not great stories the whole area of the event are just some individual accounts of people who were there when the wave struck.

Mark, owner of the bar

Mark ran a bar in one of the side streets just off Bangla Road in Patong. OnThe morning of the tsunami, which had just opened its stores. He had to help a waitress and started getting ready for business when he heard a strange rumbling noise. Seconds later, there were screams and shouts.

Mildly curious, but do not worry, Mark looked down the street and saw people running on Bangla Road. Then he was surprised to see water around the corner. Even then it was not too worried. It was just a steady slow stream. She told her maid to stayin the bar and looked toward the water flow. Incredible, kept constant arrival and soon became a river of water that was strewn with debris swirling in the bar. Mark and her maid suddenly realized that they are in trouble and had to jump on the toolbar.

The building was quickly filled with a swirling flow of water and debris. For the first time Mark has seen their lives were in danger. The water came up quickly and tried to swim through the water filledchairs, tables and all kinds of hard objects would be suicidal. You have the power with which the water was hitting objects visible in the walls, as this situation was desperate.

Then, like a scene from an action movie implausible, swam a personal watercraft in the bar with the keys in the ignition. The wave took him and dragged from the beach bar in Soi Bangla and Mark is like a lifeline. Mark jumped on the jet ski and started the engine. Her maid jumpedon your back and revved out of the bar and on the road, grinding through all types of floating debris, as she went. He turned to Bangla Road and rode the relaxation of the stream as James Bond Rat-U-Thit Road, where he reached the water.

Once Mark jumped from jet skiing, there was a man who had asked her to take it. He had lost a friend on the beach and was desperate to get to see him. Mark gave the Jet Ski. Of course, nobody knew there was a second wave and thirdyet to come. Mark does not know whether the man is his friend or return.

Nick, Phi Phi Islands

Nick and his friend were staying on Phi Phi Islands. They found a room in a grocery store to Ton Sai Bay. On the morning of St. Stephen, were awakened by a crackling noise and then the sound of strong blows to the side of the building objects. He looked on his balcony and saw the incredible view of a tide of water rolling stock through the isthmus of sand, directly below them and on the opposite side of the bay. Between the flooding, which could see how people swept away.

When the water finally over, went down. The store was a hit pretty well and survived the store owner still inside detection of damage. Nick and his girlfriend were a bit 'confused, what had just happened, and offered clear the store owner to help the chaos. It seemed the right thing to do. Somehow he knew that the store owner had a riskfailed. He said that should make their way to the beach and up the hill to the next level.

While walking along the beach, joined many other people. There were also many others for the position of higher ground. Nick and his friend do not see, hit the second wave. They had their way up the hill for about fifteen minutes when he heard the sound of the waves striking. They already had a place to settle with many other survivors, that is when they heard the roar ofthird wave. Settled with all the other confused and disoriented survivors for a longer stay.

There was a man there, a Scotsman, who seemed to have a company to manage the situation of many others. He talked about Nick and his friend. He argued that if these waves Phi Phi was then taken anywhere in the region most likely to be beaten. It could be days before help arrived. He said they needed to go back down the mountain to fetch water, food, medicines and insectrepellent.

The Scot led a group of five, including Nick and his friend down the mountain. They met a nightmarish scene of destruction. The island was devastated and strewn with corpses. They found a shop that, although wounded, still stood. They dug through the piles of Commons until he could carry all the essentials they have found. They took her back up the hill and distributed among the survivors. They found it was not enough, so he made a second tripup the hill. By the time the tour was over, it was late afternoon, but had enough Essentials for all. He made a third trip, but this time all I got was beer. Did not disclose the other survivors. This was for himself.

Everyone spent the night on the hill, before people began making their way in the morning. The relief came in mid-morning ferry.

Mike, Rawai

Mike is a Canadian who is in Phuket for 6 months a year.Phuket was one of the few who actually noticed the earthquake. It was with a coffee on the balcony when he noticed the vase beside him swing. He had slight tremors, never seen before in the United States and was convinced he had noticed was a small earthquake. Soon forgotten. He was meeting friends for breakfast in Rawai.

They met at their usual restaurant across the street Rawai Beach. Everything is running normally until one of his friendsFind out how far the sea had withdrawn. Rawai is a shallow bay and it is usual to see the rocky bottom of the sea at low tide, but this morning it was as if the water was gone. Curious friends discussed this strange phenomenon and showed it to restaurant owners. He was worried, he seemed to have done something wrong. This was when Mike earthquake tremor felt in the morning had already recalled.

Without knowing exactly why it affected so decided to keep the restaurant ownerguests from the back of the restaurant back on the field. A few minutes later, when he went quietly on a hill, felt the waves hit the beach.

The islands off Rawai Beach has a lot of power and tsunami waves has only a few hundred meters or so inland. However, they claimed victims in Rawai.

Paul, Patong

Paul was a little 'stunned by its Christmas celebrations in the bars of Patong in the night before. It 'was to positionBeach for a morning walk to shake off his hangover. It was a few hundred meters from the beach when he heard a strange roaring sound, to remember so many people. Still it was a few seconds before running the water until the road took care of him. Intrigued by this strange sight, he lost some precious seconds in the scene. Then she realized the water was still up. He turned and ran.

The water was already at the ankles. She ran as fast as he could, but the waterwas to go faster. It 'was quickly on his knees and then took off my feet. The swelling dragged him with incredible force. In front of a wall and the wave just wanted him to destroy him. Paul thought it was a skirt, but as the front edge of the wave against the wall, knocked the power that Paul Wall was swept through the slot. He was in a cemetery was attached to a tablet with water and dirt swirl around him.

He clung to the dearLife. When the water began to move, he felt the undertow drags him back to the sea. If the water had finally disappeared Paul stood up, broke, he returned to his apartment. His hangover was gone.
